caukaḍī (चौकडी).—f An aggregate of four: (as of four sheets of paper, of four pieces of money, of four men united in counsel, of four pearls &c.) 2 A square (on cloth &c.) 3 The bounding of a deer. 4 A period comprising the four ages, viz. kṛta, trēta, dvāpāra, kali. Fourteen of these (caudā caukaḍyā) constitute Rawaṇ's period; and seventy-two (bāha- ttara caukaḍyā) the period of the sway of Indra in heaven or of Manu on earth. cau0 bhulaṇēṃ or guṅga hōṇēṃ (From the figure of a deer forgetting its gambols.) To be fascinated or bewildered. caukaḍīcā or caukaḍyācā Having squares, tesselated--chintz, cloth, a pavement.
