Source: Asian Agri-History: Drumavichitrikaranam—The Ancient Approach to Plant MutagenesisAposematism (i.e., Aposematic Warning) refers to one of the modern applications which could benefit from ancient Indian agriculture, which presents a safe technology and methodology regarding organic agriculture and plant mutagenesis (druma-vichitrikaranam), according to treatises (such as the Vrikshayurveda).—Aposematic warning refers to colouration adopted by animals to ward off predators. The use of chemical pesticides could be avoided if plants too can exhibit aposematic colouration. Some of the principles in drumavichitrikaranam can be used to alter the colour of fruits/flowers.
