  14. wieldiness of cetasikas, kiriya-kammannata
  15. wieldiness of citta, citta-kammannata

  16. proficiency of cetasikas, kiriya-pagunnata
  17. proficiency of citta, citta-pagunnata

  18. uprightness of cetasikas, kiriya-ujukata
  19. uprightness of citta, citta-ujukata

These sobhana cetasikas accompany:

8 maha-kusala cittas
8 maha-vipakacittas
8 maha-kiriyacittas

24 sobhana cittas of the sense-sphere, kamavacara sobhana citta

5 rupavacara kusala cittas
5 rupavacara vipakacittas
5 rupavacara kiriyacittas

15 rupa-jhanacittas of 5 stages

4 arupavacara kusala cittas
4 arupavacara vipakacittas
4 arupavacara kiriyacittas

12 arupa-jhanacitta of 5 stages

8 lokuttara cittas

(or four, when lokuttara cittas accompanied by the jhana-factors of the different stages of jhana are taken into account.)

6 Sobhana Cetasikas which do not accompany each sobhana Citta:

  1. abstinence from wrong speech, vaciduccarita virati
  2. abstinence from wrong, kayaduccarita virati
  3. abstinence from wrong livelihood, ajivaduccarita virati
  4. compassion, karuna
  5. sympathetic joy, mudita
  6. understanding or wisdom, panna

Thus, altogether there are 25 sobhana cetasikas, of which 19 arise with each sobhana citta and 6 do not arise with each sobhana citta. The 3 abstinences (the virati cetasikas) can accompany the following cittas:

  • 8 maha-kusala cittas which are of the sense-sphere (kamavacara cittas)
  • 8 (or 4) lokuttara cittas which are always accompanied by all 3 abstinences

Compassion (karuna) can accompany the following cittas:

  • 8 maha-kusala cittas
  • 8 maha-kiriya cittas
  • 8 rupavacara-cittas

(the rupavacara kusala cittas, vipakacittas and kiriyacittas of the first, second, third and 4th stage of jhana (of the fivefold system)).

Thus, compassion joy can accompany twenty-8 types of citta.

Sympathetic joy (mudita) can accompany the following cittas:

  • 8 maha-kusala cittas
  • 8 maha-kiriyacittas
  • 12 rupavacara cittas

Thus, sympathetic joy can accompany twenty-8 types of citta in all.

Understanding (panna) accompanies the following cittas:

  • 4 maha-kusala cittas (those which are called: nana-sampayutta, accompanied by understanding)
  • 4 maha-vipakacittas (nana-sampayutta)
  • 4 maha-kiriyacittas (nana-sampayutta)
  • 5 rupavacara kusala cittas (of the 5 stages of rupa-jhana)
  • 5 rupavacara vipakacittas
  • 5 arupavacara kiriyacittas
  • 4 arupavacara kusala cittas (of the 5 stages of rupa-jhana)
  • 4 rupavacara vipacacittas
  • 4 arupavacara kiriyacittas
  • 8 lokuttara cittas

Thus, understanding accompanies 4-7 types of citta in all 12 kamavacara cittas, 15 rupavacara cittas, 12 arupavacara cittas and 8 lokuttara cittas.

When 4 lokuttara cittas are counted instead of 8, namely, lokuttara cittas accompanied by the jhana-factors of the 5 stages of jhana, there are 79 cittas in all accompanied by understanding.
